Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice

Lando Norris narrowly beat team-mate and title rival the Australian for the top spot in the final moments of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.

Norris, who took the title advantage from his teammate by just one point after taking the win in the Mexican Grand Prix a fortnight back, topped the Melbourne-born driver by a mere 0.023s.

Earlier in the session, Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair during the running before the sprint shootout scheduled for the evening session.

Max Verstappen, the other racer in the points battle, trailing with a 36-point deficit Norris, was classified in P17 as his Red Bull team opted for a different programme.

Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to go off, if briefly, when he lost control at corner four early in the session.

Tsunoda lost control over the curbs on exit before spinning across the escape zone, and was lucky to escape with just a minor contact of the wall.

The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the final moments of the session, spinning around through the high-speed Mergulho turn leading to the final corner on to the main straight.

The veteran wrapped up in 19th place, just behind team-mate the Monegasque driver.

The McLaren drivers were significantly quicker of the other competitors, with the German's Sauber third fastest, 0.619secs slower than Piastri's pace.

The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto in front of Mercedes' George Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
